Acquihire

An acquihire is an acquisition made primarily for the team rather than the product or business, common when a promising company stalls but its engineers are valuable. Consideration is often structured as retention packages for employees, which can leave little for the preference stack. For a fund, acquihires usually mean returning some fraction of the check — a soft landing that dresses up the loss ratio without moving fund returns.
