Lead Investor

The lead investor sets the round's price and terms, writes the largest check, runs diligence, and usually takes the board seat. Leading is how a firm hits its ownership targets and earns economics on its judgment rather than following others'. Everyone else in the round invests on the lead's paper, which is why 'who's leading?' is the first question in any fundraise.
