Placement Agent

A placement agent is a firm hired by a GP to help raise the fund by introducing it to prospective LPs and running the fundraising process. They bring relationships and market intelligence in exchange for a fee, typically a percentage of the capital they source. Most agents avoid sub-$100M first-time funds, so emerging managers usually raise direct — but agents become relevant as firms scale into institutional LP bases.
