Signaling Risk

Signaling risk is the danger that an existing investor's behavior tells the market something about a company — most acutely when a multi-stage firm invests at seed but declines to lead the Series A. Later investors read the pass as inside information, whatever the real reason. It is the standard argument for taking seed money from dedicated seed funds, and a dynamic every seed manager should be able to explain to founders.
