Recycling

Recycling is the GP's right to reinvest proceeds from early exits instead of distributing them, letting the fund put more than 100% of commitments to work. Because fees and expenses consume 15-20% of a typical fund, recycling is how managers get closer to investing a full dollar for every dollar committed. LPAs usually cap it by amount and time — commonly during the investment period only.
